נְכַת

נְכַת, נְכֵית,(cmp. כתת; v. נכש) to wound, bite, injure. Targ. Num. 21:9. Ib. 6 (ed. Berl. נַכִּיתוּ Pa.); a. fr.Gen. R. s. 98 חיויא דבעי למִיכַּתוכ׳ the serpent that is to bite my son. Y.Peah I, 16a bot. (read:) אילולי דאתאמר … נְכוֹת לא הוינא נָכֵית had I not been told from on high, ‘bite, I should not bite. Koh. R. to VII, 1 מאן דנַכְתֵיהוכ׳, v. דְּחֵיל. Gitt.67b (expl. קורדייקוס) דנכתיח חמראוכ׳ young wine from the press has bitten him (made him delirious). B. Mets.60b נשך איכא דקא נכית לֹיחוכ׳ it is neshekh (usury, v. נֶשֶׁךְ), for he bites (injures) him, by taking from him something which he (the creditor) had not given him; a. fr. Pa. נַכֵּית 1) same. Targ. O. Num. 21:6, v. supra.Ab. Zar.35b היה מְנַכֵּית ואכילוכ׳ took a bite and ate of the bread (of a non-Jew) 2) to cause to bite.
